Armada Ernest Cline Review

Armada Ernest Clin

Armada. By Ernest Cline. Science Fiction. Review by Ant. I've been a gamer and science fiction fan since the very first home computers become popular. From the days of the ZX81 and even before that with the Intellivision and Atari 2600. I've been playing games ever since. Like the authors first novel, Armada seems to speak to the older gamers out. At once gleefully embracing and brilliantly subverting science-fiction conventions as only Ernest Cline could, Armada is a rollicking, surprising thriller, a classic coming of age adventure, and an alien invasion tale like nothing you've ever read before—one whose every page is infused with the pop-culture savvy that has helped make Ready Player One a phenomenon Armada is a science fiction novel by Ernest Cline, published on July 14, 2015 by Crown Publishing Group. The story follows a teenager who plays an online video game about defending against an alien invasion, only to find out that the game is a simulator to prepare him and people around the world for defending against an actual alien invasion. Wil Wheaton, who narrated the audiobook version of Cline's previous novel, Ready Player One, performs the audiobook of Armada as well. Plans.

I had high expectations of Armada by Ernest Cline.Several years ago I bought Ready Player One by the same author and devoured it in a day. Since then it has been one of my favourite books, re-read many times. It is the book that I lend to friends who are not big readers and they always return it stunned, saying they didn't know reading could be this enjoyable Ernest Cline's debut novel, Ready Player One, stars a high school boy obsessed with dated pop culture whose video game skills make him a hero with the help of his buddies and a friendly Dungeons & Dragons-playing adult. That concept tapped into the hearts of nostalgic geeks, making the work of science fiction into a bestseller with a Steven Spielberg film in the works Cline obviously has some great skills as an author but, Armada reads like a rushed mess and falls flat on it's face. There are some good parts and it has a strong opening but the novel in general is just a pile of cliched tropes that were beyond tired before this thing was released

Over the past 3 weeks, I participated in my first ever buddy read with J.W.Martin from Storeys of Stories and we read the book Armada by Ernest Cline. We did about 2 chapters a day and fit in extra when we had time but stayed pretty consistent Note: This is a spoiler-free review of Ernest Cline's Armada. I'm just going to say up front that I was a pretty big fan of Cline's before I got a copy of Armada to binge read last month. I loved Ready Player One, and Fanboys was one of those movies that actually brought me back to the internet man

Review: Armada by Ernest Cline Posted on October 20, 2015 October 17, 2015 by Joanne @ The Starlight Shelves After highly enjoying Wil Wheaton's audio recording of Cline's first novel, Ready Player One ( One of my Top Ten I read in 2014 ) I knew I had to go for the format again with Cline's Armada , which, like it's predecessor, is laced with biting dark humor and loaded with geek. Armada by Ernest Cline: Follow-up to Ready Player One

I love Ernest Cline. I really do. I loved this book, almost as much as Ready Player One, but not quite as much, though I wouldn't be able to explain exactly why! I felt sometimes that the book made quite big leaps in the development of the story, but as soon as this thought entered my head I was carried off and away from the thought quickly And as its own book, Armada hits a lot of the right notes and is cleverly written. But it isn't great, and it certainly isn't amazing or original like Ready Player One. Ernest Cline remains an author to watch out for in the Pop-Sci-Fi field, but he set the bar incredibly high with RPO and didn't reach it with Armada Armada by Ernest Cline, 2015 Genre: YA Sci-Fi, Page Length: 349 Pages Publication Date: July 14th, 2015 Publisher: Crown publishing Source: Physical copy from Blogging for Books Stars: 1.5 out of 5 Summary from Goodreads: Zack Lightman has spent his life dreaming. It's hard to follow a debut that immediately became an international phenomenon, was published in 40 countries and is in the works to become a movie (hopefully with the same mind-blowing visual effects Warner Bros. brought to movies like Inception, The Lego Movie and The Matrix) My Review: If Ready Player One and The Last Starfighter had a love child, possibly with a little DNA donated from Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy, you might end up with something like Armada.. Ready Player One is definitely one of the parents for this book. Not just because Ernest Cline wrote both, but because there are a starship load of similarities between the two stories

  4. I recently finished reading Armada by Ernest Cline. You've probably heard of Ernest Cline from his book Ready Player One, which is currently being produced with Steven Spielberg at the helm (which almost feels like something out of the book). Ready Player One is set in a crummy mid-twenty-first century where life in the real world is pretty awful, but life in the virtual reality world is.

I had my problems with READY PLAYER ONE, it at least had charm and some enjoyable moments. Sadly, ARMADA doesn't have either of those things Armada by Ernest Cline. First off, let me just say that I loved this book. Armada is a scfi fiction novel about a video game nerd who tries to save the world during an alien invasion. If that was not enough to get me hooked, I don't know what else would. The premise of the book is pretty simple and it has many universal themes that almost feel cheesy at some points

Most bad books have some redeeming feature. This one doesn't. Ernest Cline's first book, Ready Player One, was quite good for what it was—an exercise in Eighties nostalgia, aimed at people like me who came of age in that golden time. Armada is an attempt to further capitalize on that nostalgia, but it's more reminiscent of a creepy, jobless stalker who skulks every night outside his ex. A few weeks ago I wrote about Ernest Cline's first novel Ready Player One, this week I'm writing about his second novel Armada. The two novels are stand-alone, but they are definitely in the same vein. Ernest Cline's ability to weave pop culture references throughout the novel takes the reader on a nostalgia trip along with the story Ernest Cline's debut novel, Ready Player One, was a kaleidoscopic smorgasbord of 1980s pop culture slammed into the virtual world of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that existed in Cline's nightmarish, post-apocalyptic vision of the 21st century. In a single scene, the main character shows up at a (virtual) party in a tricked-out DeLorean he won in a Back to the.

This was disappointing. I absolutely geeked out over Ernest Cline's Ready Player One, and I was eagerly anticipating his next novel. But while Armada wasn't bad, necessarily, it also wasn't anything special, and after providing such geeky pleasure with Ready Player One, being just meh is probably the worst thing that could have happened for the author's next novel Review: Armada, by Ernest Cline. Book Review: 'Armada' by Ernest Cline Of all the deaths piled up in Armada , the new novel by Ernest Cline chronicling one gamer's unlikely defense of earth from a fleet of alien warships, it's with the most profound sense of irony that the one casualty felt most deeply is that of Cline's own pop culture-savvy persona he's so far attempted to cultivate for himself Armada is an excellent second book by Ernest Cline, the author of Ready Player One. I enjoyed it from start to finish and was a little surprised at how quickly I got through the book.
